MissionProviding a home in a supportive and compassionate environment for people living with HIV/AIDS.
Profile
A delightful, bright, home for "at risk" and/or homeless people who are living with HIV/AIDS.
The Lester-Tune Home Place is a program of Catholic Charities of East Tennessee, Inc. It is a tax exempt, 501 (c)(3) organization with a mission to provide affordable housing for homeless People Living With HIV/AIDS (PLWA) in the Greater Chattanooga area and surrounding counties in Tennessee, Georgia, and Alabama. The Home Place has been serving the general public since February, 1997 when the first client came to live there. The home has seven furnished units available to single men and women. It is fully equipped for the physically challenged. Each unit has a living/bed room, kitchenette, and private bath. Staff is on site five days a week and on call nights and weekends. The Home Place is an independent living facility.Information
The concept originated with two individuals who lost a family member and a friend to AIDS in 1994. There was no help available to these people.
The first person was discharged from the hospital with nowhere to go. After a group of concerned people searched for weeks, he was found in an abandoned garage with nothing but his oxygen tank and the clothes on his back. The other person died at home on Thanksgiving Day, 1994. His wife had quit her job to take care of him. However, she lost contact with her family and many friends since they were afraid to associate with her because of her husband's disease. Nursing Homes would not accept people with AIDS at that time. And there was absolutely no help for the families of people who had AIDS.
The Home Place is the answer to problems like these!Products/Services
